The Non-Formal Education (NFE) and Supplementary Education (SE) centres being the main initiatives of GSS constitute the main basis for elimination of child labour activities in the operational area of Annavasal and Viralimalai blocks of Pudukkottai district and have taken deep roots as important and sought after services.
Grama Seva Sangam (GSS) has repeatedly underscored its deep commitment, from 1988 to now, to the elimination of the scourge of child labour in all its forms by adopting a systematic and professional developmental process. Approximately 92% of the entire labour force in the project area is in the unorganized sector which includes agricultural labour, construction labour, migrant labour, beedi work which have been employing a large number of child labourers.

Grama Seva Sangam was started in the year 1988 at first by Mr. M.R Palanichamy, an ordinary person in the rural area . As a young boy hailing from a poor family in that small village Kilikkudi, he was deprived of his basic education due to his family circumstances. This was an unfortunate disappointment to him in his early life.This misfortune kindled his enthusiasm and inspiration which lead him to do something good for the rural poor and backward mass.He had given concrete shape to his thought at first in the year 1980 with the support of some like minded friends and oneness in spirit.
Later, in the year 1988 there originated a legally registered society in the name of GRAMA SEVA SANGAM with 11 members hailing from the rural background. Their ultimate aim was to promote the socio-economic conditions of the community and its educational oppurtunities.
An empowered rural community should be evolved in terms of social, economical and educational statues in Tamilnadu state.
